Our Founder

Hamdi Başaran (1913-1987), the founder of the HABAŞ Group was a role-model to his family and colleagues with his hard working, entrepreneur nature and always shared the pleasure of his success with them obtained through the business that he pioneered.

Hamdi Başaran began running his own business at his early ages and opened the first flour mill of Eastern Türkiye, later on, he moved to İstanbul and worked in the textile industry. In 1956, he founded “Hamdi Başaran Topkapı Oksijen Fabrikası” to start oxygen gas production in a modern way and renamed it to its current name in 1967 with the opening of the air separation plant to produce liquid oxygen, nitrogen and argon first time in Türkiye in Topkapı/İstanbul. Later on, Hamdi Başaran pioneered HABAŞ many complementary investments concerning modernized technologies for the production of industrial and medical gases, which are products that are indispensable inputs in industrial production and the medical field, making them easily available countrywide.

Believing that with the right incentives the national industry and human resources were capable of manufacturing the imported machinery and equipment, Hamdi Başaran used to say “Domestic production should have the maximum share in our investments, we have to search for the appropriate workshops to manufacture our machinery and equipment”, while also encouraging his family and friends to work with the same belief. Furthermore, in 1969 he founded HABAŞ Industrial Plants Inc., to start the manufacturing of heavy machinery and steel gas cylinders, which was a first in our country. Since the beginning of the 1970’s until his death in 1987, Hamdi Başaran lead the development of HABAŞ in the industrial and medical gases sector, LPG sector and steel production.

Hamdi Başaran explained that the way to sustain success was through the following: "We can reach success through working hard. In order to sustain our success, we must never compromise on the service and quality that we offer. We must ensure that our reliability continues in an increasing manner”. Hamdi Başaran always felt the happiness of seeing his family and colleagues consider his cardinal principle Service, Quality, Reliabilityas their own and that his last name, which can be translated as “the one that succeeds”, was associated with high performance in the business.
